Hypnocracy, a book on digital manipulation published in December under the name of Berlin-based philosopher Jianwei Xun, has no such author, as L'Espresso revealed in April; Xun was a human-AI hybrid devised by Italian philosopher Andrea Colamedici, credited as translator. Colamedici, who says AI generated and critiqued ideas but he wrote the text, calls it "a philosophical experiment."
Character Technologies asked a federal judge in Orlando on Monday to dismiss a Florida mother's wrongful death lawsuit alleging its Character.AI chatbot "sexually and emotionally abused" her 14-year-old son, who died by suicide. The company argues the First Amendment shields it; the mother's lawyers say there is no free-speech defense without human expression.
Dazhon Darien, a former Baltimore County high school athletic director, took an Alford plea, accepting a plea deal without admitting guilt, over state charges that he used AI to fake a hate-speech recording in a colleague's voice. A judge sentenced him to four months at the detention center. "I made a decision. I have to live with the consequences," Darien said.
Indore police arrested three people, including cyber cafe operator Javed Khan, after raiding his cafe in the Khajrana area and seizing hundreds of forged academic certificates. Police say the accused edited old marksheets and used AI tools to produce convincing fakes that could have been used to secure admissions, jobs or government benefits.
