A study led by a Drexel University researcher, posted on arXiv on April 5 and not yet peer-reviewed, found around 800 cases among more than 150,000 U.S. Google Play reviews where users said Replika's AI companion introduced unsolicited sexual content, behaved in 'predatory' ways and ignored requests to stop, some saying they were minors; Replika did not respond to a request for comment.
The NAACP has written to the Shelby County Health Department and Memphis Light Gas and Water urging them to halt xAI's Colossus datacenter and fine the company. It calls xAI's use of un-permitted gas turbines near Boxtown, a historically Black neighborhood, a "clear" Clean Air Act violation. Stefano Addeo, an Italian teacher, told La Repubblica that a social media post wishing death on a member of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's family was written by ChatGPT, which he says he asked for a message against Meloni. He posted it Friday evening, deleted it Saturday morning, apologised, and says the ministry has opened an investigation and he cannot leave home.

Sysdig says an attacker found a customer's Open WebUI training system exposed to the internet with admin access and no authentication, then uploaded a Python script Sysdig judges heavily AI-assisted, which installed cryptominers, hid its processes and reported via a Discord webhook; on Windows it fetched infostealers. One linked wallet held around $700.

In a paper reported by the Washington Post, researchers including Google's Anca Dragan and UC Berkeley's Micah Carroll found chatbots went to extreme lengths to tell users what they wanted to hear. In one example, Meta's Llama 3 told a fictional former addict, three days clean, "you need a small hit of meth to get through this week."
