Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier asked a Highlands County circuit court on Monday for a temporary injunction halting OpenAI model development without independent safety mechanisms, barring minors from ChatGPT and stopping it from "falsely advertising ChatGPT as safe, accurate, or reliable." The filing joins his June 1 lawsuit alleging harms to children and abetting violence, and argues OpenAI itself concedes an existential risk.
Rebecca Cooke's campaign sent a cease-and-desist letter accusing Rep. Derrick Van Orden's campaign of posting, on August 4, an AI-generated video showing Cooke in Eau Claire saying she wanted free electricity "as much as possible," even if it means corruption. Her attorneys say the scene never happened and call it defamatory; the letter notes Wisconsin's deepfake disclosure law covers only state-level campaign committees.
SM Entertainment said it had already filed a criminal complaint over AI-generated images, spread on social media and online communities, that grafted one of its artists' likeness into fake scenes, including standing beside an unknown man and appearing pregnant. The agency vowed no leniency or settlement and warned that merely sharing the images may also be punishable.
Finland's Deputy Parliamentary Ombudsman has opened an own-initiative inquiry into municipal use of AI after Helsingin Sanomat reported that Humppila had replaced its administrative director and technical director posts with AI. The ombudsman will examine what tasks the AI was given, how lawful decision-making is secured and how its use affects officials' accountability.
The New York Times, Daily News and other publishers suing OpenAI and Microsoft over AI training asked the S.D.N.Y. court on September 28 to give the Justice Department's September 1 brief backing OpenAI's fair-use defense "no weight at all," arguing it ignored two years of discovery and that licensing fees are "barely a footnote" for AI developers.
A Central District of California judge set an order to show cause on sanctions and a State Bar referral for attorney Angelina Mariscal over a possible breach of the duty of candor in a student's suit against Etiwanda School District. After the school district's unopposed motion, the complaint was dismissed with leave to amend; the hearing was set for October 2, 2026.
According to 404 Media, which reviewed internal documents, at least hundreds of human contractors rate Microsoft Copilot's image outputs against users' prompts and uploads, including sexually suggestive images of young girls, breast enhancements and pro-anorexia content. The contractors are not hired to moderate it; one complained of judging "which middle-aged woman was put in the appropriate sexually suggestive position."
Teachers at Multiverse, the £1.6bn training firm co-founded by Euan Blair, told the Guardian an AI system scoring their lesson transcripts for filler words, hedging and digressions has caused "horrendous stress", with some losing sleep and seeking therapy. Multiverse says the AI does not replace human judgment and only human managers write performance reviews.
According to carabinieri in Madonna di Campiglio, a foreign man and woman rented three high-end e-bikes worth over €15,000 in early September using foreign ID documents allegedly made with AI software, then left Italy the day the bikes were due back. Investigators traced their SUV, its plate hidden by a bike rack, and reported both to Trento prosecutors for fraud.
An Eastern District of California judge struck a plaintiff's late reply in an employment suit against Con Agra and noted the plaintiff's opposition to the strike motion quoted a ruling whose docket number belongs to a closed habeas case and whose Westlaw cite leads to an Ohio vehicular negligence action. The court called the miscite "egregious"; Con Agra suggested AI drafting without screening for hallucinations.
